I'm Charlie. I've been growing things in Southwest Florida for almost two decades.
Precision Planting started the way a lot of small businesses do: people kept asking me to come work on their yards.
I've spent almost 20 years in Southwest Florida horticulture — nurseries, landscape design, plant sourcing — long enough to learn what actually thrives on a Sarasota lot and what's going to be dead in two summers. SWFL is a beautiful place to grow plants, but it's also unforgiving. Salt air, sandy soil, hurricane season, six months of heat. The plants that survive here — and look good doing it — aren't always the ones on the front rack at the big box store.
Alongside the landscape work, I've been growing orchids for years. What started as one plant on a windowsill turned into a collection that's been recognized by the American Orchid Society more than a dozen times. Mounted orchids — orchids growing on driftwood and live branches the way they do in the wild — became something of an obsession. Most landscapers in SWFL don't touch them. I think that's a missed opportunity. A single well-placed mounted orchid can transform a lanai.
Precision Planting is the bringing-together of those two things — landscape design grounded in real horticulture, and orchid work that nobody else around here is doing.
What you can expect when you hire me
You work with me directly. From the first walk-through to the final plant going in the ground, I'm the one designing, sourcing, and installing. I keep the company small on purpose. It means I can give every project real attention — and it means you can ask me questions about a plant six months from now and actually get me on the phone.
I'll also tell you the truth about your property. If something isn't going to work, I'll say so before you spend money on it. If a less expensive solution is the right one, I'll point you to it. That's how the business has grown for ten years — almost entirely on referrals from people who appreciated the straight talk — and I plan to keep it that way.
Where I work
Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, Lakewood Ranch, Siesta Key, Longboat Key, Lido Key, Bird Key, Casey Key, Osprey, Nokomis, and Englewood. If you're a little outside that range, ask — we usually figure something out.
Get in touch
The best way to start is a quick message about what you're thinking. From there we'll set up a time to walk your property together.
